The American Constitutions / The Creation of a Private Sector Elite
[ send me this paper ]
Though Thomas Jefferson, one of the authors of the Declaration of Independence and the American Constitution asserted that each individual should have the unalienable right to 'life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness,' the creation of the American Constitution, based on the Federalist Papers and extending from the First and Second Constitutional Congresses, supported the continuation of caste divisions in the United States. This 6 page paper considers the nature of this assertion, and further defends the argument that the development of a private sector elite stemmed from the actions of men like Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Paine, Patrick Henry and George Washington. Bibliography lists 2 sources.

President Clinton's Impeachment Trial: Impact Upon American Politics
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Just how irreparably has President Clinton's impeachment trial impacted American politics? Quite significantly, according to industry experts. The sexual scandal that led to the ultimate trial, say some, was not worth the heavy investment of time, money and political resources that were greedily consumed as a means by which to teach the president a lesson. After all, Clinton was hardly the first -- and will not likely be the last -- person in office to engage in extramarital activities. However, the other side believes that Clinton's personal deception translates directly to his professional career, surmising that if he can so casually commit such an offense, he would be just as capable of doing the same thing in the political arena. The writer discusses how the reputation of American politics has taken a hard beating on account of the impeachment trial. Bibliography lists 6 sources.

The Clinton Administration and Health Care
[ send me this paper ]
This 10 page report discusses the various health care initiatives put forward throughout the Clinton Administration, both the successes and the failures. The Clinton Administration has been decisively involved in health issues since its earliest days. However, most steps forwarded have been blocked or met with several steps back. Far too often in the past six years, it has been the administration's side that has been pulled into the mud puddle in the health care tug-of-war which has resulted in substantially less health care reform than President Clinton and his supporters had promised while campaigning. Bibliography lists 12 sources.

Johnson & the Great Society
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page paper discussing the book 'Lyndon B. Johnson and the American Dream' by Doris Kearns Goodwin and how it illustrates Johnson's ideal of a great society, as was defined in one of his greatest speeches. Johnson was a man who held many regrets, as Goodwin so eloquently illustrated, and to a large degree his dream may well have been a failure. This may have well had something to do with the fact that the American people never saw him as much more than Kennedy's replacement and Johnson could never fill the shoes of the revered president. Communication Perspective: Kennedy's Inaugural Address
[ send me this paper ]
5 pages in length. When assessing the rhetorical aspects of John F. Kennedy's inaugural address, it is important to not only focus upon the oration as a single entity, but also to separate it within its own boundaries. Indeed, while all the individual pieces come together to form the speech as a whole, it is with these components that President Kennedy is both eloquent and able to make his point. Bibliography lists 4 sources.
Filename: TLCkendy.rtf
Godfrey Hodgson/America in Our Time
[ send me this paper ]
An 8 page analysis of historian Godfrey Hodgson's study of American culture, America in Our Time. In this book, Hodgson argues that the period from the inauguration of JFK in 1960 through the second inauguration of Richard Nixon constitutes an era that was so radically different from what preceded it and followed it that it constitutes a specific 'age,' in and of itself. His arguments are most persuasive and the writer demonstrates that Hodgson carries off this premise extremely well. No additional sources cited.

Power in the Intergovernmental System
[ send me this paper ]
Some analysts would claim that power in the recently established intergovernmental system resides with the big states, those with the highest populations and, hence, the most voting power. Others claim the main power in the intergovernmental system resides with those states smart enough to get the most federal monies in the form of block grants by putting in the best applications for those grants. Some say it resides with big business. This paper posits that the power, for the moment, resides with the federal government. Bibliography lists 4 sources. JVintgov.rtf

William E. Leuchtenburg/The FDR Years
[ send me this paper ]
A 5 page analysis of Leuchtenburg's insightful commentary on the legacy of the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt. President Ford's Pardon of Richard Nixon
[ send me this paper ]
A 10 page paper discussing the value of honest Presidential communication with the people of the country. This President, after taking office under the very worst possible of political conditions, approached the American people with honesty and an admission of a period of indecision, but then concluded with the reminder for us that the ultimate decision was his. That blatant honesty and commitment to doing what was right rather than what necessarily would have been politically advantageous most likely cost him a full election two years after the fact, but it gives the American people a standard against which to judge the veracity of Presidential rhetoric and also presents all those Presidents following with an example they could do worse than to follow. Bibliography lists 8 sources.

“Nixon, The Man, The Myth”: A Review of the Oliver Stone Movie
[ send me this paper ]
A 6 page review of the Oliver Stone movie starring Anthony Hopkins, Joan Allen, Powers Boothe, James Woods and J.T. Walsh. The reviewer contends that, as unfortunately the case in this movie, Nixon is most often remembered for his weaknesses more so than for his accomplishments. Never-the-less, while it is the more questionable aspects of Nixon’s life which Stone chooses to capitalize upon, in doing so he has brought to life many other aspects of Richard Nixon which too many of us have forgotten. In all, in fact, Oliver Stone’s film is an excellent introduction to a very complex man. While Stone emphasizes some of Nixon’s more sordid moments in politics, he provides enough biographical detail to make his movie not only interesting but useful. Bibliography lists 3 sources.
