France And South Korea: Comparison Of Employment Relations Environment
[ send me this paper ]
14 pages in length. Thistle Electronics is a UK-owned company whose core business is manufacturing micro-electronic components and circuitry for such electronic consumer goods as mobile phones and computer peripherals. From its original plant in Glenrothes, Scotland it has expanded rapidly and is planning a vigorous policy of overseas direct investment in its manufacturing capacity in a number of potential locations. The company enthusiastically adopted a number of HRM practices in the late 1980s including performance related pay, team working, and a strategy of total flexibility with a heavy use of temporary workers and flexible working time (including overtime on demand). It has always refused to recognize a trade union, relying instead on a variety of employee involvement practices. The current Chief Executive, Ed McGregor, is aware that Thistle's domestic non-union approach may not be sustainable in many of the target locations overseas but remains unsure about the precise labor market and employment relations environments which Thistle can expect to encounter. Bibliography lists 17 sources.

Korea Between Empires, 1895-1919: A Discussion of the Contentions Presented by Author Andre Schmid
[ send me this paper ]
A 4 page examination of the contention that Korean nationalistic identity grew in step with the ideologies presented by Korean newspapers. The nationalistic movement we have witnessed in Korea has been particularly progressive in the last two centuries. Schmid obviously wants the reader to conclude that Korea's newspapers, newspapers whose content was guided (particularly during the period of Japanese colonialism) by the most elite of the population, was the primary factor in the evolution which occurred in regard to the concept of Korean nationalism. This argument has one obvious flaw. The majority of Koreans during this period could not read and, even with the Tonghawk revolt in 1894, the media remained largely removed from the concerns of the general populace. No additional sources are listed.

20 pages in length. The multiplicity of languages spoken across the globe makes the world a diverse and complex place in which to try to communicate. The extent to which common speech varies from place to place is indicative of massive cultural incongruity, as well as the absence of any linguistic common denominator. North Korea: Rogue State
[ send me this paper ]
6 pages in length. Basking in its well-earned reputation as a rogue state, North Korea offers no apologies for the lying, conniving and deliberate misleading it is guilty of carrying out with regard to nuclear weaponry. That the nation has long been – and continues to be – a threat to the United States and world peace stems from its refusal to honor an agreed-upon nuclear contract established during the Clinton Administration, taunting with preemptive strikes and defiantly selling their weapons to anyone who has the money to pay for them, just to name a few valid reasons. Poverty in North Korea
[ send me this paper ]
8 pages. This paper tells of appalling conditions in North Korea with thousands of people starving to death and yet the government of North Korea refuses to allow any outside help or even to admit there is anything wrong in the country. The cries of the North Korean people who are starving to death must be heard. It is the noises that the political parties of other countries make that serve to drown them out. This inhumanity is the equivalent to another Holocaust. The thesis here is that the message needs to get out to the world that these poverty-stricken North Koreans desperately need help – but that the North Korean government will have to be circumvented to do so. Bibliography lists 6 sources.
Filename: JAnkrpov.rtf

South Korea: GNP After World War II
[ send me this paper ]
10 pages in length. At the end of World War II, South Korea had the same Gross National Product (GNP) as many sub-Sahara African countries. Today, South Korea's GNP is more than thirty-eight times greater than even the most prosperous economy in sub-Sahara. How did this occur? Clearly, when one analyzes the history of such so-called newly industrializing countries such as South Korea, Singapore and Brazil, one will readily find that the political factors of institutions, ideology, culture, policies and political elites have significantly contributed to this economic success.
